the last word

The day begins early here... alarm clocks buzzing hours before the sun begins to light the earth. And I stay tucked into the warmth of our bed, drifting in and out of sleep... while he prepares for his day... ready to head out and save the world. Or at least our small corner of it. My eyes open for a goodbye kiss... and he quietly declares his love and urges me to sleep... just a little more. I hear him at the door, heading out... knowing that he is juggling his gear and his coffee and whatever else will get him through his twelve hour shift. And with arms full of his day, he stops on the other side of the door and I hear the key tumbling the lock... and he has the last word, as it whispers... I love you.

A sound to unwrap...

I just love the way you word things Dawn! Patrick left for work about 20 minutes ago (4am) and I hadn't yet fallen asleep...had a tad of caffine and it wired me like a Christmas tree all night. ANyway, a similar scene takes place here in the wee hours of the morn. I thank God for blessing me with this man. (I can be a pill sometimes, but HE thinks he's the blessed one!! Go figure.) {{SIGH}} That is so lovely. Thank you for reminding me of a husband who does the same :)

What is it about a man's stopping to lock the door behind him that communicates such love? I know just what you mean. I think safety and security are my love languages. Maybe I should have married one of Eric's fellow officers! :)

No, I'll stick with my Jack. . . but I do love to be protected by him. Maybe it's because the mother has to be the protector so often--sometimes we want to be the one curled up safely in someone else's protecting embrace.

Thank God for big, strong husbands. And Jesus.

This is beautiful. My husband leaves for work before I'm out of bed most mornings. My favorites are the mornings where he just rubs my back for a few minutes before he leaves. Massages are my love language. ;)

Oh, I love this...you write so well, Dawn.

Are you feeling better yet?

This is beautiful. My hubby is often up and gone before I am up and moving, too. It is such a comfort to know that he is taking care of us and he wouldn't want it any other way.

Absolutely beautiful! Reminds me of the mornings my husband had to head out to the airport at 3am every morning. I miss those small yet large moments of love...however, I'm also enjoying having him here to wake up to now. ;-)

This sounds so much like the same thing that goes on every morning at my house. Love it!

I just wanted to drop by and say I hope you are feeling better. I've read on Kat's and a couple other's blogs that you've been sick...get well soon! : )
