splashing on a sunday

The clouds were closing in on our Sunday picnic… and as we sat under cover, we watched the rain roll in. The breeze was glorious… cooling us off from the stickiness of an almost summer day. Watching the rain, we realized it was more than just drops falling from the sky… there was a bit of hail mixed in as well. I don’t pretend to understand how there could be ice falling from the sky when the temperature was hovering at 90… and I really don’t need to know… because what was more important was the joy shining on the faces of my kids. Florida snow! Well… maybe not. But they would race out and collect a few pebbles of ice and admire them as they melted away… they set their plastic cups out in the driveway hoping to collect enough ice for a cool drink… they were amazed. Back and forth, into the rain, then back to safety. It continued quite a while… even after the ice ceased to fall and all that was left was rain. They were a little wet… but they were happy. Cam commissioned a ship, the S.S. Cam and floated it in a puddle… while Laura danced in her converse sneakers and laughed at her footprints.

You know what? I don't think adults play in the rain nearly enough. The joy shining on your children's faces has me resolving to do just that the very next time it rains. Which could be any minute now.

We occasionally get Florida snow here in SC, too.

P.S. I love your music.

How fun! There is nothing quite like dancing around in the rain, and I'm sure watching your children doing the same is at least as sweet :)

Oh how FUN and what beautiful pictures! Your kids look like a hoot. I absolutely adore a good ole rain shower and hail really just makes it that much more interesting, doesn't it? We are just about into some really good summer thunderstorms here in Idaho and I can hardly wait to sit in the safety of my front porch with the kiddos and watch them come!

Nice to see your children playing and enjoying the rain! We should all do that once in a while!

We had hail here, too, and I couldn't believe it! It's been years since I've heard the bang, bang, bang (we have a metal roof). Of course, we had to step out on the front porch to have a look. So strange...even the air had a little cold blast to it (kinda like opening the refrigerator door). I'm glad it was too small to do any real damage, and although I DO NOT like the tornado warnings that will soon appear almost daily, I have to say, I DO love those afternoon summer rains!
