more than you know

After only a flurry of warm days, we are back to a Florida chill... and the corners of my mouth are swept up in a smile.  I can't help myself.  And I can't help but let a giggle slip out as the trusty weatherman speaks of the windchill, in Florida.  Today we may be the only state in the nation without snow on the ground, but as I wrap a scarf around my neck on my way out the door, I can pretend I have a little hope that one or two flakes might just fall...

Just weeks ago I was talking to my Mom about all of the acorns the live oak has sprinkled over my driveway... more than any other year since we've lived here.  It'll be a cold winter then, she spoke as she ducked into the car.  And it made me think of Pa and Laura Ingalls coming across that thick-walled muskrat house in The Long Winter, and Pa's seasoned response that it would be a long, cold winter.  Oh yes, the animals know.  Because God provides... by letting the woodland animals know to build their homes a little sturdier, by hanging a few more acorns on an oak.  And my smile grows, just a little wider.

Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns,
and yet your heavenly Father feeds them.  Are you not much more valuable than they?
         -Matthew 6:26 AND Luke 12:24
(yes, it is in the Bible twice... that is how much He loves us.)

I love this post. I love it because I love Little House on the Prairie. I love it because I love how your Mom told it would be cold because of acorns...and how older people just KNOW that stuff...and was reminded about Tim telling me we'd have more snow because he was told that if snow was in the woods more than a certain number of days there'd be more snow (don't know if that one's true, but it's one of those sayings ;). And I love it because you tied of off that back to Him.

I am glad the wind chill makes you smile and I'm sure, your heart all warm! You know I would box it up and ship some of it to you if I could--but, I fear it would melt before it got there...

Do you know that The Long Winter is one of my favorite books in all the world? Every now and then I get it out and re-read it, just to give myself some perspective.

I love this post. No big surprise there. Because I love the woman who wrote it. :)

Dawn, you have an avid Little House books fan. I think I must have read that series 3 or 4 times at least when I was a little girl, and I remember that scene. Isn't it flabbergasting to see how God provides??? Thank you so much for linking up with me, and also for leaving a comment. :)

Thanks for the reminder that we are more precious to Him than the birds of the air!

Oh my gosh - I got chills reading your blog. Matthew 6 is probably my most favorite book in the Bible. I have a passage from it on a platter in my foyer. Happy weekend!

I love the Little House on the Praire series and read each multiple times. It has been cold here, but not especially snowy. I'm ready for more snow!
